iOS Mail App Issue
I have an AVM FritzBox 7530 AX with DNS over TLS (DoT) and DNS v4 servers.
On iOS devices connected to the WiFi network and the iOS Mail application, they can’t download new messages. I’ve tested this with four different devices (iPhone 16, 15, 12, and iPar Air on the latest iOS).
However, the same devices using the same NextDNS profile on the cellular network download messages without issues. Other devices connected to the WiFi network (two MacBooks) don’t have any problems.

This is a bug in iOS ...

Happening to me too. Apple Mail seldomly connects or downloads new messages. Gives me lots of problems when MFA codes are sent there. I have to switch to 5g to download them.

Interesting looks like Apple Mail is downloading messages etc via Apple Private Relay and it doesnt work properly if you block it.
i.e. You can fix it by turning off ‘bypass methods’ on NextDNS Parental Controls page as well as ensuring mask.icloud.com isn’t blocked.
Of course this allows your devices to bypass Next DNS and defeats the purpose…. lets hope Apple fixes it in an update. -
Raised an Apple Support Case - please help me get Apples attention on this!

So good news everyone - this is resolved in iOS 18.3 despite no official acknowledgment from Apple. Ensure you update your devices!
