Custom Blacklists

Hello NextDNS community!

How to add custom blocklists? It is useful that NextDNS has so many blocklists to choose from but I would like to add my own custom one too. I know that it is possible to add domains to the "Denylist" and "Allowlist" Tab but adding them one by one it is not that productive. It would be nice though to be able add a .txt file or multiple domains to "Denylist" and "Allowlist" Tab.

Thanks!

This was asked in the past and the main reason why NextDNS doesn't implement something like this is the scalability aspect, if everyone made varients of filters as let's say HaGeZi Pro already exists but there are 100 other versions of it let's say Pro v1 - v100 with tiny differences in the main file, now all the 100 different files would have to be on every server to allow a seamless transition as you shouldn't expect your DNS queries to wait until the server downloads your personal filter, this gets even more complex when there are more filters in play. That's also likely the reason behind no other DNS service actually offering it other than Enterprise services that ofc change a lot more.

Hey Yeah. I understand the pre-made block lists part then. But I still do not get the "Denylist" and "Allowlist" Tabs. Is the same if I type in my "Denylist" and "Allowlist" every entry one by one or if I import a list with my customized entries.

Ben Dover That I don't know for sure but if you use a good list having an Allowlist/Denylist isn't that necessary, I use HaGeZi Pro and have 5 domains whitelisted (purely to get rid of anti-adblocking popups) other than that I don't block or allow anything as if it's a false positive I/users report it and he whitelists it on the whole filter.

I'd say do as HaGeZi himself said, if you need to Allow/Deny for other reasons unfortunately you'd have to do it one by one with the current system.

The NXE extension (third party not affiliated with NextDNS) automates adding donations so you can copy and paste a blocklist. Not ideal for long lists and it takes a while, but it is an option.
