Connecting to router

I made a free account and got nextdns working on my android but I can't figure out how to connect to my router. I managed to figure out how to change my primary and secondary to   45.90.28.232 and 45.90.30.232 but I'm guessing that doesn't make it connect to the router since nothing changed. So any help for someone who doesn't understand this stuff is appreciated 馃檹

Ok, let鈥檚 get things straightened up first of all.
You are trying to setup NextDNS to work on your router and not just your android device, correct?
In what section did you put in your primary & secondary IPs, was this on the router settings somewhere? Please explain a little further.

Yes I'm trying to get it on the router so it affects all devices. I found the WAN ip address section and changed the primary and secondary.

Ok, so WAN section might not always be the best place to put it, as depending upon DHCP to point to router IP.

If DHCP is not set to router IP then it will make devices use whatever is set for DHCP DNS.

So if that's not the right place then what settings do I change to connect nextdns to my router?

If possible put the IPv4 addresses for NextDNS into the DHCP section of the settings. If there isn鈥檛 any dns setting available in DHCP then it might be ok to leave it in the WAN section.

I don't know what the ipv4 addresses are and what's the DHCP? Because I'm seeing something called DHCP reservation under broadband settings.

Configuring the nextdns server IPs as your router's custom Primary & Secondary DNS settings alone does not make the nextdns service work.

You need to link your IP address to your nextdns account using a DDNS (dynamic DNS service) like noipDOTcom.

You will find these settings under  nextdns/Setup/Linked IP

Does your IP address change very often (like if you shut down the modem regularly at night or otherwise, etc.)? Because after a shutdown of the modem, the ISP usually assigns a new IP address to your modem, and NextDns servers can't identify if it's exactly you sending the requests again.

If your modem remains ON all the time, you can link your current IP to your NextDNS account under NextDNS/Setup/Linked IP and ignore the DDNS method as mentioned in the earlier reply.

it says ip linked but I don't think it's connected to my router because I tested with parental controls on but it only affected my android phone not any other devices
