Instagram.com on Safari is being blocked as per my recreation time settings, but instagram the app seems to be working fine. All taking place on iPhone with NextDNS showing as active. What’s going wrong?

On Safari, you need to disable Hide IP address from trackers on macOS or iOS for NextDNS to work.

Mito NextDNS does work on Safari, just able to access most of instagram app (with updates to feed etc) during the period in which it should be blocked.

I think this is because the iOS/iPadOS versions of the Instagram app are designed differently from the Android and web apps. The Instagram developers have embedded the IP addresses needed for the app to work. In the App Privacy Report in Settings/Privacy and Security (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212958), you can see the IP addresses to which Instagram connects directly.

Applications/services like NextDNS, PiHole, Adguard can filter domain name queries.
