Unifi CGM and Unidentified Devices

Hi,

When I first installed the NextDNS CLI app onto my CGM it reported back the device names to my logs and everything was great. At some point however, everything comes back as unidentified except for the router. I'll admit, I'm a bit of a novice so any help would be appreciated, but please overexplain and assume i know nothing.

Please see the attached screenshots.

Thank you

Ah, I see what you’ve done. The DHCP DNS servers should be only the IP address of your router (which is in your case 192.168.0.1).

Because you used the Linked IPv4 DNS addresses in that section, you were essentially bypassing your router for DNS requests and going directly to NextDNS for all your devices connected to your network. Also this way you don’t get any device identification and requests are unencrypted (which is what you have seen).

Bottom line, change the DHCP DNS server 1 to 192.168.0.1 and leave the rest blank.

Hey, that was definitely it. Makes perfect sense why that was happening. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

For anyone in the future, your client devices need to get a fresh dhcp lease to see the logs start rotating with the proper device names coming back. I bounced my router and when it came back immediately everything was right.
