What does IDN protection block?

Just testing NextDNS and the first thing I noticed was that I could not access my own domain. Realized it was because IDN protection was enabled by default.

Does IDN protection always block all non-english characters? If not, how does it work and how do I figure out why my own (perfectly legit) domain is blocked?
