Be great to color code the macOS menu bar item based on status

I regularly switch in and out of VPNs for work, which often disrupts nextdns. It would be great if the menubar item could be color coded on my Mac to display current status, exactly the same as the website (ie green = all good, orange = connected but different profile, red = nextdns not running) so I can see at a glance if nextdns is active or not.

Would this be possible, please?!
