Can I use NextDNS "naked"?

My Nvidia Shield (2017), firmware 8.2.3, AndroidTV 9, can't be given a private DNS-over-TLS/QUIC URL—only IP addresses—unless I do some ADB thing, which is above my pay grade. I don't care about blocks for my use case, anyway, and I'm not gonna do the crazy Link IP exercise. Will it work for just plain-vanilla DNS if I enter the NextDNS IP addresses, and be done with it?

    It may be "quicker," and it may seem to work, but I'm asking for an authoritative answer whether it would be an abuse of the system to use it that way, whether it could give less-than-optimal results that might go unseen. If so, I would just use Cloudflare DNS IP addresses on my Shield.... I'm wondering whether *any* of the extra NextDNS security features are in play when just the IP addresses are entered into settings without any link back to the device's IP address, like, for instance, with AdGuard DNS's.

      George Machen That's AdGuard Public DNS, which filters ads with a fixed setting. NextDNS has no such feature. Without linked IPv4 there's no filtering at all. There's dns0.eu from NextDNS creator that might fit your need.

      Yes, I know what AdGuard DNS is; I've used it for a long time, but am trying NextDNS because I get poor latency with AdGuard.... But AdGuard doesn't just get advertising, it also gets tracking, malicious, and phishing websites.

      Thanks for the dns0.eu suggestion, but I'm in the U.S., and it might involve too much distance & hops to Europe to serve me well. On the other hand, my NextDNS server is only 75 miles away from my town.

      I've already said that linked IP is not in the cards for me (not to mention that the others in my household wouldn't put up with it), and that I don't know how to use ADB.  (You sound like you really have contempt for me because I'm not as smart as you.)

      I don't know what your point is about DNS structure differing from VPN. I've already gotten my Proton VPN to substitute NextDNS by entering its DNS-over-TLS/QUIC into my phone's Android system private DNS.

      First find you tv local ip

      You can find it on router dashboard or fing app , for free

      On your pc install google platform tools , you can easily find it on Google

      You can also use mobile with bugjaeger app on play store

      Open command prompt on adb folder , find it on Google its simple

      Type "adb connect ip:5555" , replace ip with your local tv ip address

      Now verify device connection by typing "adb devices" , if your device don't show up reconnect it

      After connection success go to adb shell by typing "adb shell"

      Now , you are in your tv root shell ( you can do anything with your tv but don't do lol )

      Now set private dns to hostname b y typing "settings put global private_dns_mode hostname"

      Now change dns using "settings put global private_dns_specifier tls-dns" , replace tls-dns with your dns over tls hostname

      Now you are set , check it with your tv browser by going to my.nextdns.io and signin , you know this

      Anyway if any problem ocour i can help again

    Really, it's a simple question: is NextDNS just a regular DNS with only its IP address entered in one's internet settings? And without any failings otherwise?

    I thought that might be the case when I read the official what-happens-when-300,000-accesses-is-exceeded, but, hey, one never knows—it could be an abuse to just enter the IP address, with deleterious consequences for all I know, which is why I'm asking for an authoritative answer.

    "NextDNS can be used for free up to 300k queries per month. Once this limit is reached, it becomes a standard DNS resolver, with no filtering, no logging etc."

      I found it best on free dns

      Pay then you will get more

      Anyway for paid work try controld , its best for paid users only on two usd per month

      Nextdns is also chep and goog on paid plans same as controld
