Square peg into a round hole?

I see so many posts from people struggling to get NextDNS running on their existing routers.  
Why not just get an inexpensive separate device, such as Raspberry Pi and go with what’s known to work?

I’m perfectly happy running the CLI on my 8 year old  MacBook.   It’s simple, rock solid, and easy to configure.   It can run as a server, but since it’s a laptop it wouldn’t be practical.   I’ll probably repurpose the laptop as NextDNS server when I replace it next year.

The point is why put so much effort into trying to make your existing (possibly expensive) router run NextDNS when you could probably find an inexpensive linux SOC box to do it easier?

    Because it doesn't make sense adding another device just for a easy task like DNS.
