Making sense of devices in logs

I have next dns installed on my Unifi UDM and everything seems to be going as I would expect. However there is a lot of devices that I can’t make out what they are. Phones laptops etc all seem to be clear but some devices are named what looks like MAC address’s and Device # blah blah blah. Is there any way to pinpoint these devices and name them for the log files? Also I have two of some devices, I’m guessing one for in the house Wi-Fi and another for when outside the house. Would that be right?

If they support either the Apps or DoT / DoH you can send the device name, otherwise technically there really isn't much to do.

I’ll have to see what I can do so. Cheers

    Agree, same here.

Would be good to either identify or change the device name retrospectively

so nothing on this ehh? I'm mining my nextdns logs and unless I have the nextdns config on the device I can't find a way of mining

too bad there's not a way to mind the local logs on the usg before it hits the DNS-over-HTTPS service

Hey gents. I have your night and shining armor I promise. So unless I’ve been missing something the first issue is you cannot search the logs by date and time. Very frustrating. It also does not show the ip address. I had been on a mission to find out what a certain someone was doing on my network and the info was too vague. On top of that if there are any Apple devices on your network yes, it will show up as multiple devices. Apple does a serious job of hiding who’s on your network. I have even had it morph into another device basically where it looked like my Wyze camera was shopping online for clothes.

Anyways, in came my discovery of the app Next Hub. Why it’s not endorsed or purchased by Next Dns is beyond me. It’s incredible. Once I narrowed down that someone I can literally search by exact time what chat apps they were using. I love it so much I’ve donated to the developer. Check it out, you might too. Hopefully Next pays this guy a lot of money to bring it to their platform. I’d like to see all the features he has on the PC platform or browser.
