"DDNS Light": allow linked IP as target of rewrite
Since I already use a script on my ASUS router to automatically keep my linked IP up-to-date it would be nice if I can use that linked IP as the target of a rewrite (instead of filling in a hardcoded IP). Because I use NextDNS on all my devices that would provide some "DDNS Light": on all my devices I would then be able to use a domain name of choice to access my router (or any services behind the router), without using a real DDNS service or an IP address.

You can call the URL we provide in the advanced section of the link IP settings at regular interval. It's designed for that.

Was actually thinking about something precisely like this - glad I found this topic.
My idea would be to have a secret link for each custom rewrite (like the secret link for setting IP), that way it is very versatile and would be a great added benefit. Essentially, each of the rewrites becomes a private “DynDNS” url. Would be very cool and good for privacy of privacy to not have this listed in a public DNS zone

Can anyone share a script to call the URL to update the IP using DDWRT? If I use wget it is not updating the the IP

Glad I found this! Would love to use exactly what Rob suggested.
