Update linked IP with heartbeat method

Coming from ControlD, they offer a method of updating linked IPs by setting up the DNS in a browser that will be used daily.

I'm wondering if NextDNS works the same way as my router (Amplifi Alien) constrains me to only use the legacy IPv4 settings.

You can use DDNS on your router, for my TP-Link I have their own DDNS and syncing it with NextDNS makes it work flawlessly.

I’d recommend looking into the Linked IP section under Advanced in Setup.

There is a unique-to-you URL you can call to ensure the IP is linked with that ID. Idk how you would do it directly in the Amplifi (maybe you could add a postifup command, or a cron job in the router to call the URL every five minutes say). Or something else on the network could call the URL and then the IP would be right for the Amplifi too.

I had an old AirPort that I did this with. Used the IPv4 IPs in it and then had another switch curl that page every so often.

You can also programmatically update your linked IP by calling:

    https://link-ip.nextdns.io/<id>/<random>

hmm, everything I read online suggests that it doesn't support DDNS without some additional setup involving a RPi

Nobody will do this. Welcome back to Control D, William.
