DoH ultralow vs regular profiles

I enabled DoH on my Ubiquiti UniFi router.  There are 3 options.  One is obviously for IPv6, but the other two are regular and ultralow.

I'm assuming ultralow is ultralow latency?  Do you also need the regular as a backup, or can you just select ultralow?

I am interested in this, too. Is there any further info?

Regular is good, what is your intent of ultralow and why is it so important?

It sounds like "better performance" 😉

What is the technicals behind that setting anyhow?

Don't go blind to better performance, there are so many dependencies and in addition you might want to figure out if you are using anycast.
Again you need to ask yourself carefully first what and what you are going to use it for, happy tweaking!

What dependencies are you talking about? Just follow NextDNS' instruction:

"Ultralow provides access to more locations, potentially offering even lower latency than with anycast. For ultralow to function, you need to connect via our hostnames, which only works with encrypted protocols like DoH (DNS over HTTPS), DoT (DNS over TLS), and DoQ (DNS over QUIC)."

I am using NextDNS in AdGuard Ad Blocker as my DNS server and it automatically connects to the ultralow servers in my location. It doesn't need much thinking, you just need to follow the instructions.

I just found this post https://help.nextdns.io/t/h7hmvak/what-is-anycast-and-ultralow which explains what Ultralow is. ✌️

BTW @Eric you might want to follow this https://help.nextdns.io/t/h7y3adj/2024-ubiquiti-dns-shield-configuration-issue to get your NextDNS profile identified and a local DNS cache working on your Unifi device (via NextDNS CLI)
