NextDNS + Adguard Premium
AdGuard support said...
"You may stick with AdGuard instead. Even though using a private DNS should not interfere."
"There is a DNS protection module in AdGuard, where you may enable your NextDNS as a private server."
Is this correct?
I'm sure some people would say It's overkill, but I'd use NextDNS for security more than anything else.

I didn't say it was more secure, I said I was going to use it for security more than anything else along with AdGuard. NextDNS has lots of different security features, not to say it's more secure than Adguard.

Adguard Premium or in android terms just Adguard is an app that filters not just DNS requests but also HTTP/S requests. So it can filter and remove ads that aren't doable through DNS and can also remove empty spaces left from the said ads when they're blocked by NextDNS.
Their support isn't wrong though, you can choose both ways, you've stated that you want NextDNS for the security aspect, I'd say use it as Private DNS / Apple Configuration Profile to ensure that it's always on with the least amount of possible failures and use Adguard as you'd normally do if you'd like to remove the leftovers from ads and remove embedded ads that NextDNS doesn't.

Mike F like I've mentioned, I would personally go for the device config instead of using their or NextDNS app as that way it can work with a VPN and you reduce the number of possible issues. But if you'd like to set it up that way, you copy and paste the setup urls on your NextDNS page either TLS or HTTPS and it would use the preferred config.

Mike F you enter a name and enter either the TLS address. (Your ID).dns.nextdns.io or HTTPS https://dns.nextdns.io/(Your ID) and save.
As I said it's shown on your home tab in NextDNS as TLS and HTTPS

Hey Hello mate.
I don't know about Android but on iOS NextDNS configuration profile does not override the VPN DNS unfortunately.
You must use a third party like AG Pro where you can choose a third party DNS to override the VPN DNS.

Pierre Cartier I honestly didn't know that, I thought hey as it's a system thing it's like Android then, that sucks, on Android I can use any VPN I want and 99% of the time it uses NextDNS only a single VPN provider completely bypasses Private DNS but their only goal is to serve ads so paid VPN would bother.
Bad luck on your end with iOS.

Attached my AG Pro NextDNS TLS configuration.
iPhone can be replaced by your own device name from my.nextdns.io or not.
Add you ID where I hid mine.
BTW I read many times on Reddit that Android user add NextDNS info into the Private DNS section (on your video)

I will also add you might want to add your NextDNS IPv4 in Bootstrap and Fallback servers in AG Avanced / Low Level Settings. See screenshot below.

Mike F Like I said I don't know Android system as I am an Apple guy. Hey is the right guy. However I gave you the right configuration you could still use.
Maybe you should try to have several configuration on the same phone. Just use one, for instance AG, and check the result.

OT: What does ControlD have to offer, that NextDNS already has?
Is it easier to setup with AdGuard than NextDNS?
