Unable to access Captive Portals with multiple setups

I have a few laptops that will be traveling but I'm unable to get any captive portal sites to load. (McDonalds, hotels, airports, etc) I added msftconnecttest.com to the allow list as I noticed it was always redirecting me there when not using NextDNS. The hope is that we don't allow end users to be able to disable NextDNS because it will not get turned back on.

I have tried multiple configs as listed below at multiple locations all with the same results.

Using NextDNS windows application:

If enabled no Captive Portal sites will load.

If disabled I can authenticate through the captive portal and browse normally.

As soon as I enable it all traffic stops and nothing ever appears in the logs.

Using YogaDNS:

After checking "detect captive portal" in settings Captive Portal sites will load.

After authenticating I could browse normally.

By going to https://www.dnscheck.tools/ I was not going back through NextDNS servers.

In the log I could see that it would always fail to connect to NextDNS and failover to the provider DNS.

No applications only set in Firefox, Chrome, and Edge:

Captive Portals would always load.

After authenticating browsing would work.

Again going to https://www.dnscheck.tools/ I was not going back through NextDNS servers, it would be whatever DNS provider is being used on the network and no logs would ever appear in NextDNS.

This particular laptop was windows 10 and it does not have native support to use DoH directly in the system.

I've noticed a handful of other posts and I've tried everything I can think of. Has anybody had any luck with Captive Portals and NextDNS?

I also attempted to reach out to their business support email since I have a paying business account and have not gotten a single response. I know this is an issue with the large number of posts regarding the same problems.
