Android Auto Disabled

Android Auto (wired and wireless) isn't working since turning on. NextDNS. Any idea how to allow that service without having to turn off NextDNS?

Always check the Logs and look at the pattern, look at details of the blocked links when you try to use it, see which list(s)  is blocking. Disable the list or add to Allowlist.

Maybe it is Block Bypass Methods

I used Android Private DNS settings for NextDNS all the time without issues with Android Auto.

Are you using the app or Private DNS?

Which filter lists are you using?   Start with just OISD and maybe notracking.

What's shows getting blocked in your logs?

Roger Wright switching to private DNS instead of using the app fixed it. Thanks!

I confirm that with the nextdns app active, android auto refuses to run saying it does not support VPNs. From my understanding nextdns is using some VPN APIs and android auto automatically rejects VPNs by default, even if this is not specific case for NextDNS.

Setting Private DNS works, but does not provide the anonymity abilities that DoH provides. I assume the NextDNS app uses DoH and it is preferred.

Private DNS utilizes DNS-over-TLS/QUIC.  Isn't that sufficient encryption?   Or is the issue one of avoiding port 853?
