Setup on Asus RT-AX-86u router

I am new to this, so bare with me, I am trying to set up next dns on my Asus RT-AX-86u router and have been having issues as to exactly how to do this. When I go to the assign dns screen next dns is not there, so I put the numbers in the manual setting, is this all I need to do with a paid subscription? Do I need to use dns privacy protocol or dns-over-tls profile , present servers, dns-over-tls server list?

    If you're not running the stock Asus firmware, but the excellent third-party Asuswrt-Merlin firmware, you should consider using the NextDNS CLI.

    I am running the stock Asus firmware and dont know how to use the asuswrt-merlin firmware your speaking of. As I have new to this is there a way you could walk me through as, everything I have looked at doesnt seems to match what I am looking at.

    I was able use the link you provided to me to set my router up with asuswrt-merlin firmware and it seems to be running fine. Thank you so much for your time and help. I couldn't have done it without it.
