I've had to stop using NextDNS

I set up NextDNS on my system yesterday and installed the CLI on my Raspberry Pi. It has been working really well. Unfortunately this morning I was using a price comparison site which was blocked. I went to the NextDNS site to briefly turn off filtering so I could access my bargains. I was really surprised to see there is no option to quickly disable filtering. I have used PiHole and AdGuard Home and both of these services allow themselves to be disabled temporarily.

For me this is a deal-breaker. I tried creating a new configuration with no filtering, but when I selected it there was a message to say my computer was using  a different configuration, ie. the default profile with filtering enabled. There seemed to be no way to easily switch between profiles. I thought that might have been a solution.

For now I have returned to AdGuard Home.

    If you used OISD and Fanboys annoyance that would most likely make sure that you don't see that happening many times. So yeah sadly there is no way to quickly turn it off but going with a more leniant filter should help you with your cause.

    Thank you @heygotlocked. I use OISD and Steven Black blocklists, along with the default NextDNS list. These have served me well on AdGuard Home and PiHole so I wouldn't wish to use anything less secure just because NextDNS refuses to add a simple switch. I'm interested to see if the new AdGuard DNS service is more user friendly in this respect.

    I've just heard that the new AdGuard DNS, currently in beta testing, has the ability to suspend blocking temporarily. I think many NextDNS users will jump ship when it comes out of beta.

      Phillip Deackes Yeah, they should start letting people test/use it soon. But, there is a huge difference between NextDNS and AdguardDNS in many ways. So make sure you consider everything before jumping ship. Coverage, the scale (It's integration with big Internet Providers like Verizon, SK etc.) and stability of NextDNS is onpar with the best aka Cloudflare while Adguard's DNS had outages with the surge of requests earlier this year. They could have some additional features but in my opinion, the reliability of NextDNS is extremely good to a point where I'd probably just whitelist the problematic domain instead of switching to another provider.

      It's my opinion though, we tend to forget the good things that we are used to, it only becomes apparent when you use something else. I am saying this since I tried a few alternatives, paid and free a while ago and it was a quite change of events. Anyways, try it out and see for yourself.

    I just tried whitelisting ad.doubleclick.net but I am concerned about opening a can of worms. Another link from pricespy tries to open a link preceded by tc.tradetracker.net and so on. I really don't feel whitelisting all these tracking urls is something I want to do.

    I have turned on that option and will see how it goes. What am I losing out on with affiliate links enabled?

    When I want to bypass NextDns, I enable 1.1.1.1, which can be downloaded and installed on windows, once installed, you'll see it in the tray, and click to enable the 1.1.1.1 warp, when you need to bypass nextdns for any particular site that may be blocked.
