Internet Traffic Encryption

Although most traffic in an Android device requires a DNS, not all of them do.

The queries that do require the DNS, does get encrypted by NextDns . But, what about the ones that don't require the DNS? What happens to such queries/requests ? Are they encrypted?

Examples of requests that do not require the DNS can be the apps that load data without a DNS server, using only the network access. It can be easily found out by using an incorrect DNS hostname in the Private dns settings in Android.

Sounds you’re mixing DNS with VPN.

remember that VPN can be circumstanced by apps

DynamicNotSlow Yeah I know what a VPN does. It encrypts the entire traffic. But I am asking in general. Like I am not using any VPNs, just NextDns. So, the traffic that is not encrypted by NextDns, what happens to them? Are they encrypted in some way by default ? Or is there a chance that the traffic in such(unencrypted) case can be meddled with which can harm the overall security in any way?

Sohan Ray only the DNS part of the traffic is encrypted between your device and NextDNS. If it is a HTTPS request the rest of the traffic will be encrypted as well, regardless of the DNS configuration. If the request is HTTP or any other unencrypted protocol, only the DNS part will be encrypted and the actual connection won’t. DNS encryption has no influence on encryption of the protocol used after the DNS lookup.
